RAINY DAYS IN PARKSVILLE

The weather is not always ideal, but a rainy day should not ruin your vacation. Here are some activities that will keep your spirits up when the weather has got you down.

Head over to Robert Held Art Glass for some glass blowing classes or simple admiration. Robert Held offers classes for all levels of glass blowers; if you’re not sure about your own artistic abilities you can just explore the gallery and appreciate this truly unique art. Almost every piece in the gallery is for sale, so patrons can take a little piece of authentic Vancouver Island art home to enjoy for years to come.

If you’re lucky there may be a show going on at McMillan Arts Centre. Even if there’s no show you can still visit the centre and support the local arts scene. Shop for one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone back home at the Gift Shop; from paintings to photography, from jewelry to ceramics, you’re sure to find something for everyone while supporting local artists.

E.C.H.O Players Village Theater is a non-profit community-run organization dedicated to bringing live theatre to the community. Make sure to check out one of their shows, their talent is undeniable.

If you’re in Qualicum on a Saturday, go down to the Qualicum Beach Farmer’s Market. It is open from 8:30a.m. until noon year-round. The market is stocked with fresh produce, sweets and crafts. All vendors make, bake or grow everything they sell.

Want to spend the day at the market but don’t want to haul your umbrella around? Drive out to Coombs and visit the Old Country Market, referred to by locals as Goats on the Roof (because of the goats on the roof). Shop local meats, cheese, bakery items, artwork, garden decor, and other artisan goods

Don’t let the weather spoil your vacation! You can still enjoy Parksville by participating in all or just a few of these unique experiences.
