Top 10 “Spring Things” To Do in Parksville and Qualicum Beach

 In Blog

Spring will be here soon so start planning the perfect Parksville and Qualicum Beach getaway today! Whether you’ll be exploring the area solo this Spring, enjoying it as a couple, or bringing the whole family, it can be tricky to narrow down your “must-do” list. We’re here to help: the Sunrise Ridge Waterfront Resort team has put together our “Top 10 ‘Spring Things’ To Do” list. Happy planning!

#1: SPELUNK HORNE LAKE CAVES

Hailed as a “mainstay” by Vic News for its wide variety of exhilarating tours and expeditions, Horne Lake Caves is always top on our list of fun things to do in the area. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker (try “Extreme Cave & Rappel”), or a little younger (try the “Riverbend Cave Explorer” suitable for ages eight and up) there’s an underground adventure for everyone! Bet you didn’t know there was a whole magical world beneath our feet here on Vancouver Island. Check out our Sunrise Ridge and Horne Lake Caves “Spelunk Right In!” Package.

#2: BE CHARMED BY THE OLD COUNTRY MARKET

A favourite of ours here at Sunrise Ridge, The Coombs Old Country Market (best known for their main attraction, the goats on the roof!) is as quaint as it is charming, and it’s just a few minutes’ drive from our resort.

Having originated as a fruit stand on the side of the highway in 1973, the market decided on their now-famous staple—the goats on the roof—but, as legend would have it, fluke; it’s said that goats grooming the thatched grass roofs of the market was originally suggested as a joke after a few glasses of wine! And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

#3: WOW THE KIDS AT RIPTIDE LAGOON ADVENTURE PARK

With Spring Break upon us, it wouldn’t be fair to plan a visit to Parksville without the whole family, and you’re in luck because there’s so much to do for kids and kids-at-heart in the area. Looking for some “Parents-Only Time” while you relax in the luxurious outdoor hot tub at Sunrise Ridge? Send the kids to Riptide Lagoon Adventure Park. There they’ll find two super-fun mini-golf courses, laser tag, bumper cars, and an arcade. (Moms and Dads love it there too!)

#4 & 5: SAY “CHEESE!” AT LITTLE QUALICUM CHEESEWORKS & MOOBERRY WINERY

Best enjoyed in tandem, it’s no wonder why both Little Qualicum Cheeseworks and Mooberry Winery both made TripAdvisor’s list of “Top Attractions in Parksville”. Owned by local Morningstar Farm, Little Qualicum Cheeseworks and Mooberry Winery are situated next door to each other and, with their selection of thirteen handmade cheeses and seven flavours of wine, are must-adds to your own Top Spring Things To Do in Parksville list. It’ll be some of the best food and drink Vancouver Island has to offer, we promise!

#6: RELISH THE BEAUTY OF RATHTREVOR BEACH

Sunrise Ridge loves Rathtrevor Beach. It truly is one of the most beautiful coastlines in BC and, while it’s amazing all year-round, it’s especially beautiful in the Spring with the flora and fauna putting on their best shows. Check out our recently-published guide on Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park’s many offerings and activities. Which leads us to…

#7: EXPERIENCE RATHTREVOR BEACH’S BRANT WILDLIFE FESTIVAL

The Brant Wildlife Festival! Every March and April, Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park plays host to one of Parksville’s top Spring celebrations of nature: the elusive Brant Geese make the beachfront their temporary home before they continue their journey to northern nesting grounds. If you are in Parksville after March 21st, we can’t overstate how much you’ll enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience this natural wonder.

#8: VISIT MILNER GARDENS

A tranquil pit-stop during your Vancouver Island Spring getaway, Milner Gardens & Woodland is a beautiful botanical and historic experience. Surrounded by rare old growth Coastal Douglas Fir, the seaside gardens host teas each afternoon and offer tours throughout the Spring.

#9: MAKE MEMORIES WITH TIDAL TREASURES

Tidal Treasures is a unique non-profit program in Parksville and Qualicum Beach that combines ecotourism with art! Until late April, beachgoers can find hand-painted “Tidal Tokens” created by local artists in Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park, Parksville Community Beach and Resort Row Beach. Lucky enough to find a token? Redeem it at the Parksville Visitor Centre for a gorgeous art glass treasure—and a free souvenir you will never forget.

#10: TAKE THE PLUNGE WITH SKYDIVE VANCOUVER ISLAND

For the brave of heart, Skydive Vancouver Island is the can’t-miss activity on our Top Spring Things list. With their variety of “capture the moment” photography and video options—as well as special opportunities for experienced jumpers—Skydive Vancouver Island is the exhilaration you’ve been waiting for (and is accessible for groups of all sizes!)
