T’is the Season for Crafts, Christmas and Kris Kringle
Christmas is just around the corner, but thankfully, the Oceanside area is prepared – with markets, fairs, and lots of artistic flair. Beginning this month, Winter artisan markets and events are in full swing, beginning with the Winterfest Craft Fair from November 22nd – 24th at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre. Enjoy live Celtic entertainment, while browsing through local artisans and crafters. From gourmet goods to home décor you are sure to cross a few names off your list. What’s even better, is $1.00 from each entry will be donated to a local community group. In 2018, Winterfest was able to raise $3,479 for local community groups, including: Bikers against child abuse, Oceanside hospice, Catspan, Haven society, Parksville lions, Vancouver Island compassion dogs and the Salvation army.
Visit us at Sunrise Ridge Waterfront Resort on November 24th from 10:00 – 4:00 pm for a mini Christmas photo shoot. Bring your family for a Professional Christmas photo by Janayh Wright Photography. You will receive 1 high resolution edited image by donation to our local food bank (minimum donation of 3 non-perishable food items)
On November 24th the Sea Thrift Artisan Boutique presents their 3rd Annual A Very Merry Christmas Market located at the Qualicum Beach Community Hall. There will be 28 local artisans selling their hand-crafted wares. Entrance is by donation to the Oceanside Hospice Society.
Visit the Coombs Christmas Fair on December 7th from 10:00 – 4:00 pm. The Coombs Rodeo Grounds transforms into a Christmas Cornucopia to host a range of local artisans. With handmade beautiful gifts and food items to share with friends and family and best yet, admission is FREE.
While fairs and markets are a great way to cross names off your Christmas list, in the season of giving it’s important to remember to remember to give back to those who have long lists – but lack the means to cross anything off. Food drives area a great way to give back, but all children deserve to have a present under the tree with their name on it. To help fill empty space beneath these trees, Tigh-Na-Mara will be hosting the biggest Toy Drive of its kind on November 27th. From 6:30 – 10:00 am guests are welcome to bring a new, unwrapped toy, a gift card, or a monetary donation in exchange for a free buffet breakfast at this award-winning resort.
Wander the lighted trails through the forest and garden’s while discovering Teddy Bear’s cottage, Santa’s Den and Gingerbread House display for VIU’s Milner Gardens Christmas Magic. Visit the beautifully decorated Milner House from December 6th – 8th and 18th – 22nd. Enjoy live entertainment, refreshments and story-telling. Entry is by donation in support of the Milner Gardens.
