Seaside Summer Days

 In Blog

As spring comes to an end and all of the umbrellas and galoshes prepare for hibernation, island blooms are bursting at the seams and the months of rainy weather suddenly seem worthwhile.

Islanders everywhere are throwing open their garden gates and pitching their roadside tents, ready and waiting with succulent fruits and vegetables, fresh cut flowers, and more, warmed by the summer sun and ripe for the taking.

May brings the return of the ever-popular Errington Farmer’s Market at the Errington Community Park. This long-running market will kick off the season with medieval flair, hosting weavers and spinners offering live demonstrations, a pavilion filled with fresh flowers for floral crown and wreath building, a traditional maypole, live entertainment, and fully costumed vendors and volunteers (market-goers are also encouraged to don medieval garb).

Shop fresh, locally grown and made food, artisan goods, and more in this whimsical forested market every Saturday from 10am to 1pm. Even if you miss its’ medieval opening day, this market embodies an enchanting storybook-esque feel that has made it a local legend.

Explorers of May flowers will want to mark Milner Gardens and Woodland on their maps. Though the gardens are open year-round, the property bursts with blooms come summer. Meander the petal-strewn paths that wind seaside through old-growth Douglas Firs, and culminate your garden stroll with a visit to the Camellia Tea Room. Enjoy tea service, scones with Devon cream and locally made jam, a seasonal soup selection, an array of desserts, and more in this Victorian-style garden setting.

When hunger hits, let the locals feed you! The options for locally grown and produced food are near-endless and absolutely delicious. Head out to Silver Meadows Farm in Errington to stock up on fresh fixings for a delicious dinner. Silver Meadows offers a wide selection of both sweet and savoury, including fruits, vegetables, nuts, berries, dairy, eggs, and meats, all grown or produced on site.

Just a stone’s throw from Sunrise Ridge is Cormie Farm, a rustic little farm and market offering a range of vegetables, fruits, fresh flowers, plants, and herbs. Grown on their farm without pesticides and bursting with flavour, Cormie is the perfect one stop shop for produce.

When warm weather hits, trips to the store become almost unnecessary. Roadside tents pop up everywhere offering a plethora of bright fruits and berries, freshly cut bundles of flowers, just-caught fish and seafood, and more. Just pull over and shop everything this island has to offer.

As summer tumbles in, with it comes the wild growth of island goods, perfect for filling hungry bellies, empty fridges, and bringing joy and colour to homes and lives everywhere. Reserve your getaway with us to start your spring and summer experience off right!
