About Parksville, BC
Resort Paradise on Vancouver Island’s South-Central Beachfront
Centrally located on the sheltered east coast of south-central Vancouver Island, Parksville is a vacation paradise, surrounded by beautiful beaches, mountains, lakes, and rivers.
With over 19km of shoreline and 20 scenic parks, Parksville is certainly a hub for nature lovers and adventurers. But the city is also the Oceanside region’s business centre, featuring a full range of shops and services – including a few that can’t be found anywhere else in the world.
Location & Weather
Parksville is situated 145 km north of Victoria, 37 km north of Nanaimo, and looks out on the Strait of Georgia. The city is part of the UNESCO-recognized Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Reserve, one of only two in BC.
The moderating influence of its seaside location ensures a “just right” range of temperatures that rarely dip below 0°C, making Parksville a popular year-round vacation destination. Daily average temperatures range from about 5°C in winter months to 23°C in summer months.
While you won’t typically find snow in the city itself, expect rainfall November through March. This precipitation keeps the surrounding landscapes beautifully green throughout the winter and makes the fireplaces at our Parksville resort seem all the more cozy.
Parksville Activities & Events
It’s no secret: Parksville is situated in a spectacular natural setting, perfect for a range of activities to suit all ages, abilities, and interests.
Parksville’s wide sandy beaches, including the beach below our resort, are great for year-round beachcombing, strolling, and bird watching. The city’s proximity to several regional and provincial parks, mountain ranges, and numerous golf courses also makes it an ideal vacation destination for hiking, mountain biking, skiing, fishing, caving, golfing, and just about anything else you can imagine!
In addition to Parksville’s many activities and local attractions, the city hosts over 140 annual festivals and events, including:
- Fire & Ice: ice sculptures and the best chilli around (May)
